National Nutrition Month

March is National Nutrition Month! It's a great time to assess your nutrition goals, but it's also a great time to improve the nutrition of someone less fortunate. We're conditioned to make donations during November and December, but by March your local food pantries are getting pretty bare.

Unfortunately, in our tough economic times it's much harder to keep the shelves stocked. More people need help and less people are making donations. If you are in a position to help, now's the time. Help can be provided in a variety of ways. Here are a few ideas to get you or your organization started:

  • organize a food drive in your neighborhood, at school, church, or workplace
  • prepare or serve a meal at a 'soup kitchen'
  • grow a garden and donate any extra produce, no space to grow a garden, start a community garden
  • participate in a charity walk/run that benefits your local food pantry
  • make a cash or food donation
There are an abundance of local and national organizations dedicated to feeding those in need. Check out local facilities online or by paying them a visit. The largest local organization in the Cincinnati area is the FreeStore-Foodbank. A few well-known national organizations you can check out online are:
