Bite This, Not That
In a hurry? Grab a bagel and low fat cream cheese for breakfast... it's healthy, right? Well, not really. In fact, a bagel and cream cheese is one of the worst things you can grab for breakfast. Here's why.
Most bagels are made from refined white flour (read, this won't fill you up). If you get your bagel from a specialty bakery, eating one plain bagel is like eating four slices of white bread for breakfast. How about that cream cheese? Well, you don't have to be a dietitian to know there's no nutritional value whatsoever in cream cheese, regular, light or the ever popular fat free.
So, what should you eat in a hurry? How about a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread? The protein and fat in the peanut butter are satiating, which means you won't be chewing your fingernails by 9 AM. And the whole wheat bread adds 4-5 grams of fiber to your recommended 25-30 grams per day. Add an apple (eat the skin please), and you're all set!
